A family-run establishment since 1992, the Lamp Post Inn offers guests an affordable place to stay in a convenient location. Ideally situated less than 1 1/2 miles from downtown Ann Arbor and The University of Michigan, the Lamp Post Inn is the perfect option for families, students and professors looking for an affordable and friendly hotel. The inn is also located near The University of Michigan Hospital, C.S. Mott Childrens hospital, and the VA hospital. Eastern Michigan University is 4 miles down the road, while all other University sport venues are 1 1/2 miles away. Plus, the local bus goes directly past the Inn to all Ann Arbor locations. The Larson family purchased the Lamp Post Inn 17 years ago. Their dream was not to have the most exquisite hotel in town but rather to own a hotel that was inexpensive and met the basic needs of visitors to Ann Arbor. They wanted to provide a convenient, friendly, clean accommodation at a fair price. Although the Larsons realized that their older hotel could not compete against the four star amenities of their pricey, corporate competition, they firmly believed that most people did not need the glitz, as long as they received value for their dollar. The goal of the Lamp Post Inn, therefore, is value. They do not charge guests for things other hotels claim are extras and keep their rooms very utilitarian while still providing guests with microwaves and refrigerators, as well as cable, local phone calls, and wireless Internet—at no extra cost. At the Lamp Post Inn, friendly and guest oriented service is a must. Evaluations of the Inn constantly emphasize how friendly and helpful the staff is.
